Journal of Library and Information Science (JLIS) Guidelines

Journal of Library and Information Science (JLIS) is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal published by the Library, Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies, Sri Lanka. The main objective of JLIS is to promote scholarly work in Library and Information Science.

This peer-reviewed journal publishes one issue annually and invite original research articles from diverse disciplines in Library and Information Science such as:

  • AI in Library Services
  • Smart Libraries
  • AI Literacy
  • Information and Media Literacy
  • Personalized Information Services
  • Indigenous Libraries and Cultural Heritage
  • Digital Environment and Machine Learning
  • AI Tools and Academic Integrity
  •  Internet of Things and Higher Education
  • AI Service Quality

Author Guidelines of JLIS

All submissions should be made through online.

All articles submitted to the JLIS must be original. If any of the material has been published or submitted elsewhere, this must be made clear to the Editor in Chief in written and should be resolved.

JLIS does not charge a publication fee from Authors.

Article length:

Full-length research/review articles should not exceed 5000 words in length. Research notes providing a digest of research findings should not exceed 2500 words.

File types:

Articles should be written in Open Office of MS Word format. No other word-processing applications are accepted. Use MS Excel for figures.

Language:

Languages of the articles should be in English.

Format:

All submissions should be typed on A4 size pages with 2.5 cm margins along all sides. Articles should be typed in font Times New Roman, with 1.5 line spacing. Following guidelines should be adopted.

  • Title: 14 points and Bold
  • Main headings: 12 points, Bold
  • Sub headings: 12 points, Bold, Italic
  • Content of article: 12 points
  • Do not capitalize titles.

Submission order:

The following order should be strictly followed in preparation of manuscripts.

Front page:

Title of article, authors’ names, full information on authors’ institutional affiliations including contact information (phone and email contacts mandatory).

Second page:

An Abstract of 350 maximum words exactly conveying the content of the article. Abstract should specifically contain the background/importance of the study, objectives, methods used, key findings and major conclusions. The abstract should be self-contained and citation-free. Authors should include five keywords after the abstract.

From the third page:

Main content text with all tables and figures aligned in their location. The contents should follow the following format;

  1. Introduction: Should cover the background of the study, rationale and objectives. It should be sufficient, well-argued and backed with current citations/references. To maintain high scholarly standards, VJS requires all articles to contain a minimum of 15 current references related to the topic discussed.
  2. Methodology: should clearly describe research methods and statistical techniques used
  3. Results: should be described with appropriate statistical techniques, tables and figures if needed
  4. Discussion
  5. Conclusions
  6. Acknowledgements (optional, should be very concise)
  7. References

References

Authors are required to pay special attention to the accuracy and correct presentation of references. All references must be arranged according to APA 7 style.

Preparation of Figures

Every figure must have a separate number and a descriptive title under the figure. All figures should be included in appropriate positions within the article. Other than graphs, all other figures should be supplied in JPEG format. Images should be of 300 dpi resolution at least unless the resolution is intentionally set to a lower level for scientific reasons.

Preparation of Tables

Every table must have a separate number and a descriptive title above the table. All tables should be included in appropriate positions within the article.

Equations

All equations should be numbered in order from starting and the notations used in the various equations should be given after abstract. Authors are insisted to follow standard notations and SI units system even though it’s not mandatory. All equations should be prepared using Microsoft Equation Editor.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
